FIA gives Bahrain June 3 deadline

The Bahrain government has been given an extra month by the FIA to secure a place on the 2011 calendar.

The original deadline of May 1 passed on Sunday. A statement tonight said: “The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, has granted the Bahrain Motor Federation and the Bahrain International Circuit an extension until June 3rd, date of the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Barcelona.

“This decision was taken after consultation with the relevant Bahraini authorities and Formula One Management, the international promoter.”

It’s believed that Bahrain GP representatives and Jean Todt will both be in Turkey this weekend.

I really do not understand why FOM and the FIA are doing this. Bahrain has had too many chances already, the majority of supporters do not want this race to happen this year.

What a joke. Have you ever been put in limbo like this Adam, or is this an exception?

Well, Korea last year also had a never-ending-deadline, I suppose. That also seemed a bad way to go about it. At least they had the excuse that the weather had been much worse than usual, something rather out of their control, if I recall correctly.

Maybe it’s all masked behind a smokescreen for legal/commercial reasons, but it’s a shame that F1 doesn’t have higher moral and ethical standards than to do a “personal race” for a ruling family that is openly killing their own citizens because of religious differences.
