Heavy metal band Metallica will be playing Delhi under the banner of F1 Rocks at the Indian GP.
The US band – 30 years old this year – will play Delhi on the Friday of the GP, and will also be in Bangalore two days later. It is their first visit to India.
The group’s website says: “At this stage in the game, there are very few places in the world that we have not dragged our gear and crew to, so that makes this show announcement extra special . . . for the first time ever, we will be visiting India for two shows! It’s about time, wouldn’t you say?!?!
“Up first will be Delhi on October 28, 2011 at F1 Rocks, held in Leisure Valley, Sector 29, Gurgaon as we help to celebrate the first Grand Prix race ever held in India. Night number two will find us at the Bangalore Palace Ground, Main Palace, Bangalore, on October 30 as part of the Sonisphere Festival.”
Tickets go on sale on Thursday.
At last, F1 gets serious about having proper music at GPs. The kind a few fans might actually like. Bravo.
I wonder what entertainment will be at Silverstone this year?? It wont be Metallica, they are at Sonicsphere that weekend, but something similar??? AC/DC would be very nice indeed! 😀
In the U.S. you wouldn’t see much of a cross-over of the F1 and Metallica fan, they just don’t go together over here. A “thinking man’s” band like Rush makes a much better fit. Maybe it’s different in Europe where F1 is more mainstream; and so is Metallica, I presume. Pretty surprising that India would be much of a market for speed/death metal and I also can’t see a cross-over in the fan-base there, too. Then again, you get a small percent of the Indian market and you still have a big number. But, I’d imagine there are popular Indian bands/singers that would be a much better fit in that market than Metallica. Pretty surprising call from this US perspective.
Adam….Thats fantastic news…….Where do I book my tickets 😉
Amazing that they think this will help sell tickets ..
Awesome and Awesomer!!
Where do I get tickets from, for this gurgaon show?
Where do I get the tickets? There were supposed to go on sale today!!! yikes!
@Bob : Dude…the metal scene in India would definitely surprise u ! We’ve had Megadeth, Lamb of God, Iron Maiden, Machine Head and other bands play here to sell-out crowds in the last 3 years…n yeah F1’s got a huge fan-base here too, went up big time since the Force India team came up………N i swear, Metallica would be more epic than any other Indian singer or whatever……the kind of crowd here that would be into F1 would definitely dig metallica more than anything else…..and I’ll point back to the end of the article above-> Sonisphere Festival….oh yeah!
Hey Bob, The F1 rocks edition with Metallica is something that everybody here is looking forward to. I dont know of any who wouldn’t know Metallica here. I have worked as Artist Manager for quite a few international bands that have come to India. It’s assured the market here for this music has grown leaps and bounds. It’s been a fantastic decade of concerts that took place here. We’ve had some good bands coming to India for the last few years. I can now say, India is a new avenue for metal bands across the globe. We’ve had Deep Purple, Iron Maiden (thrice), Scorpions, Megadeth, Machine Head, Opeth, Lamb of God, Prodigy, Sepultura, Aerosmith, Jethro Tull (Twice), Foreigner, Cradle of Flith, Mr. Big etc (mainstream-ers), and suprisingly, many death metal/black metal have been performing here every now and then, bands like Enslaved (Norway), Ensiferum (Finland), Porcupine Tree (UK), Dark Tranquillity (Sweden), Decapitated (Poland), Meshuggah (Sweden), Pain of Salvation (Sweden), Lacuna Coil (Italy), Hammerfall (Sweden), Textures (Netherlands) TesseracT (UK), Violent Eve (Spain), Cyanide Serenity (UK), Katatonia (Sweden), Degradead (Sweden), Sybreed (Switzerland), Cynic (USA), Inner Guilt (Lebanon), Funeral in Heaven (Srilanka), Motor Militia (Bahrain), Nervecell (Dubai) and etc. Look no further if you’re planning to make a trip to India to witness the Inaugural Formula 1 and Metallica’s first ever performance.
