Lewis Hamilton: “I’m not doing anything wrong…”

Lewis Hamiltonwas in reflective mood when he met the media today, and inevitably his recent run of frustration was a topic of conversation.

Lewis insisted that there is no specific reason why he’s had a disappointing season relative to team mate Jenson Button.

“It’s just the way it is,” said Hamilton. “I’m not doing anything wrong. It’s not my management, like everyone’s talking about. I’m very, very happy with my management, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made, and I think it’s just been unfortunate. I’ve made some mistakes…

“That’s it you know, and Jenson’s done a good job. People forget that I’m still only 17 points away from second, people also forget that all the people behind Sebastian are also 100 plus points behind, so it’s not just me.”

Asked about the clash with Felipe Massa in Singapore, Hamilton said: “When things go that quick, sometimes you get it wrong. I got a penalty for it, and it’s done and dusted, that’s the way it is. I’ll do it plenty of times over the course of my career. Obviously I’ll try my best to avoid those things but I’ve been in awkward positions this year. I was quite a bit behind and trying my best to get up, and you get caught in incidents.”

Lewis also denied that he was affected by media criticism.

“I don’t read anything so I don’t feel any criticism. But I know everyone here and around the rest of the world is writing stories, and I hear about them. I just live my life. I’m happy, I’ve got great people in my life, great management, family and friends, people that I enjoy being around.

“I’ve got an amazing job, so I can’t really complain, regardless of if people write shit about me, I just keep my head focussed on the main thing, which is trying to win races.”

Lewis, you are the best RACER out there..it’s just unfortunate that some of the drivers have to try to hold you up! You have the right attitude, forget it & move on, another day, another race.We can see what is happening though & it seems so unfair sometimes.
    GOOD LUCK

    GOOD LUCK

“It’s just the way it is” is more pathetic than Martin Whitmarsh saying ‘no one is perfect.” There are so many contradictions in his comments. On the one hand he says he’s not doing anything wrong but admits he’s made mistakes and has been in ‘awkward’ positions. He says he does not read the criticisms but hears about them, he says, “I don’t feel the any criticism’ but also says ‘even if they write shit about me.” As I said on another thread , I pity him in a way because Jensen has had his dad by his side being his dad all his life and no has a lovely supportive Michelle. Lewis has had his dad as manager when he should have been dad, and the man whom he looked up to as a father figure (Ron Dennis) also manipulated and mangaged him as well. With all the posse he has following him around he strikes me as a fairly lonely fellow who doesn’t know who he is, who doesn’t have anyone around who doesn’t want something from him, nor anyone he trusts enough to lovingly speak the truth. I’m sure he’s happy with is management, what else is he going to say now that he’s surrounded himself with yes men? Most of the critics (especially former drivers) aren’t being mean to Lewis, and talking trash, rather they’re more concerned with him and want the best. Something is not right here, and it doesn’t appear to be getting any better.

Doing nothing wrong except continually incuring the wrath of the Stewards and your fellow drivers. He’d be more credible if he were to say, “I’m not mad; it’s all of you who are insane.” He is supposed to be a world champion, not a rookie, and should have got over crashing into people. He started off brilliantly in 2007 and has since regressed into a contemporary Rene Arnoux or 1994-vintage Eddie Irvine.

How did I know this would get lots of comments,.so much hate out there for a talented British former WDC from the armchair crew. He’s should do this, he should do that, can’t believe he did that. Are any of you ex-F1 drivers? Do any of you really have a clue about whats involved?

At least when football fans criticise players there is a chance that at some point they’ve played the game themselves at some level.

Time some of you at least tried to put yourselves in a drivers shoes before you typed.

And any comment on the facts of what Lewis says or does is followed by the ubiquitous ad hominum/euphemism ‘haters’ argument and the ‘walk a mile in another man’s shoes’ disqualification. Lewis is a motorsports athelete and a celebrity, not God. He does things that are dangerous to himself and to others, and pretends to not hear the complaints. And for what its worth, former formula one drivers are saying the same thing. My qualifications? I’m a father of a young man about Lewis’ age, I was his age once upon a time in my life, I’ve been in high pressure high visibility situations, and I’ve trained/led young men his age. Put ourselves in Lewis’ shoes? How about putting yourself in Massa’s, or Kobayashi’s? No one ever makes that argument for them, just Lewis almighty. All that being said, I like Lewis, I think he’s a decent chap and a terrific talent whose head is in the wrong place right now.

Kobayashis shoes. I’m annoyed but hell its not like i’ve never made a mistake trying a risky overtake.

Maldonados shoes. Pissed off, on for my best result and he put me into the wall for no good reason.

Massa’s shoes. I’m still fuming about 2008, i’ve no chance at another title now, i’m a lackie to Alonso who will lose his seat as soon as Ferrari can find a replacement and i’m scared stiff of any accidents after what happened in 2009, but still Hamilton ain’t getting past me no matter what.

How hard can it be? If I mastered my BMW’s iDrive system I can surely drive an F1 McLaren.. You push one button the battery kicks in; you push another button the flap opens up. Go as fast as possible without hitting anybody. Duh.

  7. I was impressed with Hamilton when he came into F1. However, he has progressively gotten worse over the years. Doesn’t think before speaking, or , worse still, doesn’t think of the consequences of his actions when racing.

People normally get wiser as they get older, but, Hamilton is trying his hardest to prove that theory wrong.
