Legendary motoring journalist Bill Boddy died in the early hours of this morning at the age of 98.
He was the longest serving working journalist in Britain. Remarkably he wrote his first article for Motor Sport magazine in 1930, and submitted his final stories to the same publication last week.
Boddy was editor of Motor Sport from 1936 until 1991, and continued to write a monthly column.
He was acknowledged as the foremost authority on Brooklands, having attended many meetings there in his youth.

Sad news. I remember reading Bill Boddy’s column when I first started purchasing Motor Sport Magazine back in the 1960’s.
I still purchase Motor Sport Magazine after all these years.
Bill was always kind to me, both at Brooklands Society Events in the 1980’s and 1990’s, and with the research for my motor racing books. He was a long standing Guild of Motoring Writers Member and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Thoughts to his daughter and family.
His column made Motor Sport unique. His perspective, and career, was very interesting. Good for him that he was still writing at 98.
